Dosing
Acne Vulgaris Apply a pea-sized amount to the face once daily; wash face gently with mild soap, rinse with warm water, and pat dry before applying. Avoid eyes, mouth, mucous membranes, and areas of broken skin.
Acne Vulgaris Weight-based once-daily oral dosing: 60 mg (33-54 kg), 100 mg (55-84 kg), or 150 mg (85-136 kg); take with or without food and adequate fluid; reassess if no improvement after 12 weeks.
Contraindications
  • Hypersensitivity (e.g., anaphylaxis) to clindamycin, benzoyl peroxide, any components of the formulation, or lincomycin
  • History of regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis, or antibiotic-associated colitis
  • Hypersensitivity to any tetracycline

Sarecycline is an aminomethylcycline within the tetracycline class that binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit and blocks protein synthesis in Propionibacterium acnes; its precise mechanism for treating the inflammatory lesions of non-nodular acne vulgaris is not known.
