Indications

Dosing
Iron deficiency anemia 30 mg orally twice daily on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals; swallow capsules whole; treat for at least 12 weeks or until ferritin levels normalize.
Iron deficiency anemia 510 mg IV infusion initial dose, followed by a second 510 mg dose 3 to 8 days later, administered in 50-200 mL 0.9% Sodium Chloride or 5% Dextrose over at least 15 minutes.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ferric maltol or any excipient (reactions may include shock, clinically significant hypotension, loss of consciousness, or collapse)
- Hemochromatosis and other iron overload syndromes
- Receiving repeated blood transfusions
- Known hypersensitivity to Feraheme or any of its components
- History of allergic reaction to any intravenous iron product

Pharmacology
ACCRUFER (ferric maltol) is an oral ferric iron complex that delivers iron for uptake across the intestinal wall, enabling transfer to transferrin and ferritin to replenish iron stores.
Intravenous iron replacement agent; ferumoxytol is a superparamagnetic iron oxide coated with a carbohydrate shell that releases bioactive iron via reticuloendothelial system macrophages for incorporation into hemoglobin.
