Pharmacology
Buprenorphine is a partial agonist at the mu-opioid receptor and an antagonist at the kappa-opioid receptor; naloxone is a potent mu-opioid receptor antagonist that deters parenteral misuse by precipitating withdrawal in opioid-dependent individuals when administered by routes other than sublingual.
Buprenorphine is a partial agonist at the mu-opioid receptor and an antagonist at the kappa-opioid receptor, producing ceiling-limited opioid agonist effects; naloxone is a potent mu-opioid antagonist that, when administered parenterally, precipitates opioid withdrawal in dependent individuals, deterring injection misuse of the combination product.
