Dosing
Rosacea 40 mg once daily in the morning on an empty stomach, preferably at least one hour prior to or two hours after meals, administered orally.
Rosacea Apply a pea-sized amount once daily to each of the five areas of the face (central forehead, chin, nose, each cheek) as a thin layer across the entire face, avoiding the eyes and lips; wash hands after applying.
Contraindications
  • Hypersensitivity to doxycycline or any of the other tetracyclines
  • Hypersensitivity reaction to any component of MIRVASO topical gel (reactions have included angioedema, urticaria, and contact dermatitis)

Serious hepatotoxicity, esophagitis, esophageal ulcerations, renal toxicity (rise in BUN), exfoliative dermatitis, photosensitivity, urticaria, angioneurotic edema, anaphylaxis, anaphylactoid purpura, serum sickness, pericarditis, exacerbation of systemic lupus erythematosus, hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, eosinophilia
Postmarketing pseudotumor cerebri (benign intracranial hypertension), headache, fixed drug eruption, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, insomnia, abnormal dreams, hallucination

Pharmacology
Doxycycline is a member of the tetracycline-class of drugs; the plasma concentrations achieved with ORACEA are sub-antimicrobial, and the mechanism of action in the treatment of inflammatory lesions of rosacea is unknown.
Brimonidine is a relatively selective alpha-2 adrenergic agonist; topical application of MIRVASO topical gel may reduce facial erythema through direct vasoconstriction.
